New Mexico Community Partnerships
Heritage Hotels & Resorts Supporting Cultural Causes -
When you stay at Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, you make a difference. For more than a decade Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, a Heritage Hotel & Resort, has supported cultural and artistic ventures by featuring regionally inspired design, custom artwork, décor and cuisine. We also sponsor cultural programs and events, are actively involved in our communities, and support various organizations, non-profits and scholarship programs.
As a continuation of this tradition of supporting cultural preservation and advancement, in 2012 we will donate a portion of every room night's revenue to culturally and artistically significant endeavors through an important partnership with San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town for the construction of a devotional altar in the renovated Gaspari Chapel.
About San Felipe de Neri Church -
San Felipe de Neri Church is a historic Catholic church located on the north side of the old Spanish Plaza in Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The original church of San Felipe de Neri was built in 1706 under the direction of Fray Manuel Moreno, a Franciscan Priest who came to Albuquerque with 30 families from Bernalillo. The church was originally named San Francisco Xavier by Don Francisco Cuervo y Valdez, who founded the City of Alburquerque. Named after the Viceroy of New Spain, the Duke of Alburquerque ordered the saint be changed to San Felipe Neri in honor of King Philip of Spain. The current church building was rebuilt just 70 years after the original building was compromised by flooding from the Rio Grande. The dramatic and distinctive towers that are now an icon of the City of Albuquerque were added in 1861, a parish school was added in 1878, and a convent for the Sisters of Charity in 1881. One of the more famous nuns who inhabited the convent is Sister Blandina, one of the few New Mexicans brave enough to challenge Billy the Kid. San Felipe de Neri Church was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on October 1, 1969. Today the church complex is just completing an extensive million dollar renovation to the church structure itself and the interior patio of the church complex where visitors are welcomed each day and more than 1,200 families worship every Sunday. The San Felipe de Neri church is open for visitors to tour and welcomes visitors to the mass and services. There is also a museum and gift shop located at the church. For more information please see their website at www.sanfelipedeneri.org
